SPRING CONCERT SERIES ANNOUNCED!
The National Institute of Flamenco presents a series of flamenco music and dance this spring!

February 11, 2012:  Diego Amador in Concert

National Hispanic Cultural Center, 7pm.

Pianist and lead singer Diego Amador, together with Israel Varela on drums and Julián Heredia on bass, offer a creative, unique fusion of traditional flamenco rhythm and melodic jazz in their elegant presentation of bulerías, jaleos, and soleás.

Presented in partnership with Instituto Cervantes and the National Hispanic Cultural Center


March 9th and 10th:  “Ilhuicamina” presented by Marisol Encinias.

University of New Mexico’s Rodey Theater, 7:30pm

In Nahuatl, Ilhuicamina means one who shoots bolts into the sky.   As the given name of Marisol Encinias, Ilhuicamina” is a solo flamenco concert that describes an artistic journey that began decades ago, enriched through the process of her professional degree program.  Musicians Vicente Griego (cante), Ricardo Anglada (toque) and Carlos Menchaca (palmas y baile) will accompany.   

“Ilhuicamina” is the culmination of Encinias’ Master of Fine Arts degree requisite


March 15, 16, & 17:  “The Spanish Room” presented by Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company.

National Hispanic Cultural Center, 7pm (Thursday), 8pm (Friday & Saturday) 

Premiered in 2009, Artistic Director Joaquin Encinias is proud to present and encore of one of his most beloved productions.  Enter “The Spanish Room” and journey to a mysterious, romantic setting reminiscent of the dark, smoky halls of old Sevilla.
